Article that suggest what we all already know – Social Media plays an important role in driving users to our owned sites. However, it is unclear how much traffic can be attributed to social media. It becomes even more difficult to attribute sales or acquisition data to social media.

Google Slanted

A colleague shared this very interesting fact about Google Mobile search.

Search the word “Slanted” in Google Mobile and the resulting search page will be tilted slightly. This works also in all languages.

Inspired

Had a good conversation with a colleague a while back and it triggered a whole array of thoughts and emotions that had been shelved safely away for a couple of years.

2 key take away:

1. Opportunity – the best time to get something done is when one is young

2. 3 years – usually the time it takes to either make a success of what is being done or to make a mess and forget about it.

Will be keeping and open mind to see what unique opportunities present themselves.

Google profits leap 24%

What a relief that Google received approval for their China operating license last week. Google remains a keen player in Greater china region, and many young Chinese adore Google, and use services provided by Google from email, to maps, to news, etc. Although the site still re-directs from Hong Kong, there has not been a visible impact in the search volume, the clicks received and the ROI generated from Google search.

Latest quarterly figures for Q2 shows that Google had a year on year growth compared to previous year with a net profit of $1.84 bn.

As consumers become more savvy online, search volume and expectations for it to perform will only continue to grow. A visible trend we are seeing right now is that many clients are starting to realize the importance of Search in their overall marketing mix, and are steadily diverting monies from other channels to fund Search Activity. As more clients become more KPI driven, I am sure this trend will only increase.
